As I finish my tertiary study, it is important that I maintain an attitude of life long learner and consistently engage in professional learning to continue my improvement as a teacher. This Professional Learning Plan focuses on a strength I have that I am very passionate about, and details steps I wish to take to further improve myself in this field. My area of strength and ongoing professional interest is in the cultivation and expansion of inquiry skills in the senior secondary humanities curriculum, specifically senior geography. As a prospective senior geography teacher in a new curriculum, it is essential that I expand my knowledge of content and how this applies to cognitive skills, both hard and soft, within the curriculum whilst still building students numeracy and literacy skills.
I am particularly interested in Project-Based Learning as an inter-disciplinary approach to learning, especially when considering the vast range of skills students are to practice and present throughout their senior geography experience. I am committed to establishing a classroom environment dedicated to learning for enjoyment; to students being free to explore concepts within a range and depth they are comfortable with and being able to understand and apply concepts in such a way that encourages students to engage with these skills across all subjects.
Due to recent real-world experiences and events, I feel like it is important to use my skills to help students develop skills in analysis and decision making to be able to make informed decisions about their futures, whilst continuing to upskill myself on content and visual learning which will be implemented to improve student outcomes and prepare senior students for their future.
